From Homelessness to hope

Tuesday 29th January 2019

Cemal Ezel wanted to ‘lift up’ London’s homeless by training them to become baristas, fuelling Londoners with great coffee from trucks across the city. On applying to The Human Lending Library he was matched with his mentor Karen Lynch, founder of leading ethical water service, Belu Water.

Cemal was able to ask for Karen’s expert advice to scale his now flourishing business which started as a coffee roastery and is now a national barista training programme and coffee retailer with large brand partnerships – inc with Sainsbury’s and Virgin Trains.

“Imagine encapsulating all of your challenges into a defined list and an expert answering them in hour. This is exactly what Expert Impact does. The support I’ve received from Karen and Expert Impact on my journey in getting this business off the ground has been fundamental to our success”.
Cemal Ezal, Founder of Change Please

The Human Lending Library is a free mentoring programme offering ambitious social entrepreneurs the opportunity to ‘borrow’ some of the world’s most successful founders for a free hour of one-to-one mentoring focusing on how they can successfully scale their businesses.

The Experts are all successful founders who have scaled at least one business and are now donating their hard earned knowledge and networks to help social entrepreneurs make positive change. Experts include The White Company Founder Chrissie Rucker, Julian Metcalfe of Pret A Manger and Itsu, and Sir Charles Dunstone, Founder of Carphone Warehouse.

“Being a mentor can be the most rewarding experience, and yet often potential mentors don’t realise how much they have to offer. My journey of mentorship to friendship with Cemal began with Expert impact in 2015. From that initial ‘power hour’, we have progressed to standing on the same stage collecting Social Enterprise UK awards from Michael Sheen for our respective businesses. What could be more rewarding than that?”
Karen Lynch, CEO of Belu Water

The programme was developed by Expert Impact and run in partnership with The Business & IP Centre within The British library and to date has helped over 200 social entrepreneurs create over 500 jobs in the UK, generating in excess of £20 million in new turnover.
