Prison isn’t effective at reducing crime.

Nearly half of adults (49%) released from prison are re-convicted within one year, and 65% of young people (under 18s) will re-offend within a year of release.

Re-offending is expensive. The average yearly cost for each prison place in England and Wales is £38,000.

Nearly all prisoners (97%) want to stop offending, but lack the tools they need to live a crime-free life.

Spark Inside believes that people and communities should be empowered to change themselves and their lives, and so are pioneering coaching programmes in prisons. Their coaching programmes encourage rehabilitation and reduce re-offending, helping to make transformational changes to the lives of those who live and work in prisons across London and the South East.

Baillie Aaron explains what SparkInside do and describes what they want to achieve over the next 5 years in this video.

Baillie shares what she learnt from her meeting with John Frieda in this video.

In order to grow your business you need to focus on innovating and being creative, don’t get too caught up with having all the right structures in place, that will follow.

I was inspired by John Frieda’s commitment to empowering his team, his passion for business, and his humility as a leader – he is a role model for anyone developing a people-focused organisation.
